Change is possible.

I’m 39, and I have learned an important lesson in my life: change is always, always possible. Habits can be modified. It’s not easy, but it’s possible.

For years, I had the idea that if I wanted to change something in myself, I could do it, immediately!

Unfortunately, it wasn’t so easy. I had some goals in mind, but after one or two days my behavior was the same as before.  

Sometimes I felt a sense of frustration, and sometimes I felt a sense of guilt.

I wasn’t satisfied with myself, and my mind was always full of negative thoughts.

I read a lot of books and articles on the web; I followed courses and advice and one day I began to change my approach.

I wanted to change my habits too quickly, but I realized that I needed to proceed step by step.

Short steps reassure me. I feel comfortable. One little step doesn’t scare me; I know that I can do it.

I admire people who manage to stop smoking overnight or spend a day being lazy, but I need small steps.

During a stressful period I was going through at work, I knew that I had to take care of myself in a better way. My health was in danger, but I didn’t know how to start.

I began to stop and pause for a moment whenever I felt anxious. I breathed. One little step. That was my first step!

Over the years, I have taken many steps, slowly, at first, then faster, and my life is now better than before.

A powerful version of me has begun to emerge.

I have stopped smoking, I have lost weight, I have ended a bad relationship, I have found balance and happiness in my life, step by step.

I have changed the way I think about myself. In the past, I would use words like: “you are always the same, you can’t do it, you are just words and not actions….., etc…”

Now, I’m kind with myself, and I try to use words like: “You can do it step by step, today you are moving, you can change!”
The words in my mind have changed during the last few years. A few years is a long time, but I have not even noticed.

I have learnt to take care of myself, and I have understood how to take care of my soul, my body and my balance through little steps every day.

I consider having reached these goals as the greatest success of my life. I’m proud of myself.

After experiencing how much taking care of myself is important, I wanted to give this experience to others as well.

Change is possible. Every day we can take one little step towards our goal. Do something today — anything at all, no matter how small — that makes you feel proud of yourself.

Breathe, take your time, relax your body or smile at yourself in the mirror!
One little step!
