Self-care at work is essential, especially when you are under a lot of pressure. Instead of thinking about self-care as a longer break or vacation that only happens once or twice a year, take some relaxing moments for yourself every day, even if just for five minutes.

You deserve it.

Stress is a natural mental and physical reaction to everyday experiences but when it is too much it can be dangerous for your health.
Giving your body and mind a break from the pressure now is a great way to avoid health problems in future.

Relax your eyes
If you're staring at a screen during the day, take a break and exercise your eyes. Take a break for at least 30 seconds and look at objects that are 20 feet away from you. Then, look at the sky for 20 seconds at least.

Breathing
A powerful breathing exercise is important to calm the mind. Slow, deep breaths can help lower blood pressure and heart rate.

Look out of the window
Take a five-minute break to do nothing but stare out of the window. Looking at natural scenes like trees and public parks can be a lot more relaxing than staring at the TV screen.

Creative visualization
Use creative visualization involves thinking of something that makes you feel happy. Create a strong detailed mental image of a peaceful environment. It’s an instant mood boost.

Stretch
Standing up for a quick stretch can relieve muscle tension and help you relax.
Do some desk push ups (10 reps) to feel more energy in your body
Place hands on edge of desk, shoulder width apart, legs out behind you. Push off with as much force as you can (make sure your desk doesn't slide easily)

Relax your feet
You can get a foot massage by pressing and moving your feet back and forth over a tennis ball.

Relax your hands
Make a fist, hold for 30 to 60 seconds. Release and open your hands wide. Repeat with both hands at least four times.

Squeeze a Stress Ball
On days when you want to strangle a co-worker, squeeze a stress ball instead. It’s an easy way to relieve tension.

Drip Cold Water on Your Wrists
When stress increases, drop some cold water on your wrists and behind your earlobes. There are major arteries under the skin, so fresh water on these areas can help calm the whole body.
Try these tips at work and you’ll feel less tired and stressed at the end of the day. Give your body and your mind some tools to live better.

Have a good day at work!

Barbara.
