The real question is: How do you want to feel today?
Do you want to feel confident during a meeting with your boss? Do you want to feel supportive of your family or full of energy after an exercise session? Do you want to feel encouraging when you speak with a friend about her new plans or comfortable in your body when you look at yourself in the mirror? Do you want to feel connected with your needs when you are tired?
Personally, yes…this is exactly the way I want to feel. Every day. Because it’s a powerful, energizing, amazingly delicious feeling.
If you want to feel exactly this way you need to take care of yourself.
The best way to take care of yourself is to incorporate self-care into your lifestyle. Self-care needs to be a part of your everyday life.
“A self-care lifestyle” is a lifestyle in which you feel in control of your health, body, mind and spirit. It means living a life by taking care of yourself, giving your body the food, the rest and activity it needs.
When life gets busy, self-care is the first thing we forget but the result is that we become stressed and burned out.
Self-care helps to prevent burnout but one day off is not enough to restore our body and mind.
You need a self-care lifestyle, one in which your health is your priority.
A life in which you listen to your body and your mind every day.
A life in which you feel in control of yourself.
A life in which you don’t need a big packet of biscuits in front of the tv because you don’t know how to deal with difficult emotions or because you are so stressed that you only want to forget everything and watch Netflix, wishing that your life was like the grand finale episode of the series!
The real thing is you have one body, one brain and one lifetime, so, if you don’t take care of yourself every day, who else will do it for you?
It’s time to start creating your personal “self-care lifestyle”. Right now.
Self-care is a personal practice and it can be different for everyone. It’s important to do what’s right for you.
Start to reflect on what you need: a break, a chat with someone, a coffee, a nap, an apple. Do you need some quiet moments or need to read an inspirational quote?
Ask yourself what your real need is.
Grab a blank piece of paper and write down your needs or draw them.
Ask yourself about your needs several times during your day so you can start to have a better idea of what is really important for your body and mind.
Take a week to get to know your needs at different moments during your day. During your day, take a minute to discover your need at that precise moment.
Write them all down and on Sunday, check what kind of thing you need most and when.
Write a list and think about what you can do to satisfy your need.
Take your time to find the right activity for you.
Be realistic with yourself by remembering that it takes time to understand something new about yourself.
Don’t give up and remember that making self-care a priority in your daily life is the most important thing that you can do for yourself.
Because you deserve to be healthy and content.
